Founded in
1952, the Los Angeles Danube-Swabian Dance Group maintained a
cultural link with the former homeland of the newly arrived
immigrants, while offering a haven to the Danube-Swabian youth while
they assimilated into mainstream America.
It was and remains our goal to continue our ancestors' customs and traditions. We hope that the new generations of German descendants will proudly help us keep this dream alive. Our mission is to choreograph German, Austrian and Danube-Swabian folk dances and to perform them at a variety of functions and venues throughout the Southern California area. The dance groups are made up of four age groups. The "Little" group is composed of children ranging in age from three to ten. The "Middle" group includes children ages eleven to fourteen. Teens and young adults from fifteen to twenty-five participate in the "Big" group. And last, but not least, we have the "Senior" dance group aged from, well lets just called them "well experienced!" Our dance groups also take part in cultural exchanges and dance competitions with other Danube-Swabian dance groups throughout America and Canada. Additionally, we participate and perform in the annual "Danube-Swabian Gala Ball" every February. Besides folk dancing, the youngest groups present poems, songs, and plays on Mothers Day and at Christmas. Fun activities during the year include: camping, picnics, beach parties, and dances.
